Privacy Policy

This extension does not collect, store, or share any personal or sensitive user data. When you copy on a page where you have activated it, the text is prepared on that page and goes straight to your clipboard; it never leaves your device.

Permissions

  • activeTab — Core functionality. Pressing the keyboard shortcut, choosing Activate AllowCopy from the right-click menu, or clicking the toolbar icon grants temporary access to that one tab, so the extension can turn copying on or off there; the side panel's switch relies on the same grant. Access ends when you navigate away or close the tab.
  • scripting — Used to run the extension's packaged script in the tab you activated, and, for sites you choose to remember, to register that script for those sites only. All code ships inside the extension; nothing is fetched or evaluated from the network.
  • contextMenus — Used to add the single Activate AllowCopy / Disable AllowCopy item. It copies nothing itself.
  • clipboardWrite — Used to finish a copy the page has cancelled, and to copy an entry from your copy history again. The extension only writes to the clipboard; it never reads it.
  • storage — Used to save your settings (long selections, copy format, source URL, on-page confirmation, copy history limit, theme, language), the sites you remember, and license status locally on the device, and which tabs are active for the current browser session only.
  • alarms — Used to schedule the optional sync in the background, periodic license refresh, and checks for product notices.
  • sidePanel (Chromium-based browsers only) — Used to open the extension's side panel, which is its only user interface. On Firefox the same interface is provided by sidebar_action, which needs no permission.
  • Optional host permissions (https://*/*, http://*/*) — Never requested at install time, and only ever for one site at a time: turning on Activate on every visit asks for that site's http and https addresses; copying inside content embedded from another site asks for that one site, when you choose to grant it; and syncing through a storage endpoint of your own asks for the single domain you entered.
  • Optional data collection (personallyIdentifyingInfo, Firefox only) — Requested only when you upgrade to Pro, because your email address is then sent to our license service. Nothing is requested at install time.

Site access

The extension declares no host_permissions, no manifest content scripts, and no built-in site list. Copying is off on every page by default: apart from sites you choose to remember, the extension acts on a page only after you press the shortcut, choose the menu item, or flip the side panel's switch there, and only until you turn it off or leave the page.

On an active page it lets you select text again and, when you copy, prepares the result right on that page: it keeps only the opening part of a long selection unless Long selections is on, converts it to Markdown if you chose that format, and appends the page address if you turned on Append the source URL. It looks at your selection only when you copy, and sends nothing anywhere.

Disabling copying on a remembered site, or removing it under Remembered sites in the settings, forgets it and hands its access back. Access granted for embedded content can be withdrawn at any time from your browser's extension settings.

The text you copy

Characters are counted only to decide whether a selection fits the free allowance; the count is never shown, stored, or sent. The page address and title are read only to append the source URL when you ask for it and to label the entry in your copy history.

Selections inside input boxes and text areas are never handled; the browser copies them as usual. To tell a real form field from the hidden one some editors keep the focus in, the extension compares the text being copied with what is selected in the focused field; that comparison happens on the page and its result goes nowhere. Field contents such as passwords and payment details are never stored or sent.

Local data storage

Your settings and remembered sites are stored in the browser's local extension storage. Your copy history — the copied text, its format, the page address and title, and the time — is kept in a local IndexedDB database and never leaves the device. Nothing is recorded in private windows. You choose how many entries to keep, and a limit of 0 stops recording; entries can be deleted or cleared at any time, and are removed when the extension is uninstalled.

Bring your own storage

Cross-device sync is optional and off by default. When you turn it on, you supply your own storage endpoint, and your settings — long selections, copy format, source URL, on-page confirmation, copy history limit, theme and language — and your remembered sites are exchanged directly between your devices and that endpoint. Site access is never synced: a site remembered elsewhere activates on this device only after you grant access here. Copied text and copy history are never synced. We operate no sync server, never receive that data, and never see the endpoint's credentials — they are stored only on your device.

Network communication

Apart from a storage endpoint you configure yourself, the extension only communicates with our first-party servers. api.sovkit.com handles optional Pro license management, which occurs when the user explicitly initiates a purchase or activates a license key; the only data sent is the license key, a device identifier, and an email address during checkout. data.sovkit.com hosts a static announcement file that the extension downloads periodically to show product notices; this request sends no data about you and returns the same file for everyone. There is no analytics or tracking, and no page content, selected text, copy history, or other personal information is ever transmitted.
