Installation

Visit the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, or Edge Add-ons
Click Add to browser and confirm the permissions
Pin the extension icon to your toolbar for quick access

How It Works

BrowseCleaner brings your browser's own data-clearing tools into a side panel. The four cards on the home screen read top to bottom like one sentence: clear this data, on these sites, from this time range, at this moment. Every way of cleaning follows these same settings. Only ordinary web data is cleared; the extension's own data and the browser's protected app data are never touched.

What to Clean

The first card lists six kinds of data, with the first three selected by default:

Browsing history — Also removed from address bar suggestions
Cache — Frees up disk space; pages load a little slower the first time
Download history — Downloaded files stay on your device
Cookies — Signs you out of most sites, and some site preferences reset
Site data — May sign you out
Form data — Passwords are not affected

Sites

All sites
Keep specific (Pro) — Clean everything except the listed sites, so you stay signed in where it matters
Clean specific — Clean only the listed sites

Add domains to a list under Manage; if you opened the side panel on a site, you can add that site in one click.

When cleaning specific sites, items that can't be cleaned per site, such as download history and form data, are marked and skipped; clearing browsing history needs the history permission. When keeping specific sites, Chrome and Edge keep sign-ins and site data, and subdomains must be added separately; Firefox keeps cookies only. Browsing history, downloads and form data can't be kept per site, so they are still cleared and marked.

Time Range

The default is last 24 hours. In Firefox, cache and site data ignore the time range and are always cleared in full.

When to Clean

Clean now — By default a confirmation dialog first lists each item's actual time range and anything that will be skipped and why; you can turn off Confirm before cleaning in the feature settings
Schedule — Off by default. A run missed while the browser was closed is made up once after the next start
Browser events — On start cleans once each time the browser starts; On close cleans when the last window closes, and a cleanup cut short is completed at the next start. Both are off by default
Zero history retention (Pro) — Removes each page from your history as soon as you visit it, following the site scope. It only works while Browsing history is selected under What to clean, otherwise the switch is grayed out. Turning it on for the first time asks for the history permission
Shortcut — Cleans right away following the home screen, without opening the side panel or asking for confirmation; a check mark briefly appears on the extension icon when done. The current keys are shown on the Clean now button

Below the Clean now button you can see when the last cleanup ran (and the next one, once a schedule is set); click it to open the cleanup log.

Cleanup Log

Open Cleanup log on the Features page to see the details of recent cleanups and what was skipped, so you can check that automatic cleaning runs as expected. The log stays on this device, never records domains, and can be wiped at any time with Clear log.

Site Repair

When a site misbehaves, or you want to sign out of just that site, open Site repair on the Features page: open the side panel on that site and click Use this site, or type a domain, then click Repair. It clears the site's cookies, cache and site data from all time, regardless of your home screen settings. In Chrome and Edge, cookies are cleared for all subdomains too; Firefox can't clear a single site's cache.

Features

Clean now — Click the keys to change the shortcut on your browser's shortcuts page. In Firefox, open about:addons, click the gear icon and choose Manage Extension Shortcuts
Record each cleanup — On by default; turning it off keeps existing entries
Group by — Ungrouped by default, or grouped by day, week or month
Entries to keep (Pro) — 5 by default, or 10, 20 or 100

Storage

Connect a storage service of your own and your settings and both site lists sync across your devices. The last cleanup time and the cleanup log only reflect this device and are not synced.

Under Settings → Storage, enter your S3-compatible bucket, endpoint, and access credentials step by step, then click Test & Save. Once the test passes, turn syncing on.

When you save, the browser asks whether the extension may reach that storage address; the connection works only after you allow it.

Your storage credentials never leave this device. Without a storage configured, everything stays on this device and no feature is affected.

FAQ

I am still signed in to sites after cleaning

Select cookies and site data before cleaning, and make sure the site is not on your keep list

Automatic cleaning does not seem to run

Make sure at least one item on the home screen can be cleaned; with "Clean specific", the list must not be empty

A tile or Zero history retention says "Needs access"

A required permission has not been granted; click the tag to grant it. Until then, that item is skipped and zero history retention does not work

The current site is not recognized in Site repair

Only the tab where you clicked the toolbar icon to open the side panel is recognized; after switching tabs, click the icon again on that site
Built-in browser pages and extension store pages can't be recognized; type the domain instead

Nothing happens when I press the shortcut

If the Clean now row says "Not assigned", the keys clash with the browser or another extension; pick another combination on your browser's shortcuts page
An exclamation mark on the extension icon means nothing on the home screen can be cleaned, or the cleanup failed
