How It Works

BrowseCleaner brings your browser's own data-clearing capabilities into a single side panel: tick what you want cleared, pick a time range, and one click wipes it. You can also hand the job over entirely and let it run on a schedule you set.

Cleaning only affects ordinary web data. The extension's own data and the browser's protected app data are never touched.

Choosing What to Clear

Click the BrowseCleaner icon in your toolbar to open the side panel. The home screen lists six kinds of data:

Browsing history — The record of pages you have visited
Cache — Locally cached files for web pages
Download history — Clears the list only; files already downloaded stay on your device
Cookies — Site credentials and similar data
Site data — Data sites store locally; clearing it signs you out of sites and resets their preferences
Form data — Entries saved in web forms

The first three are on by default and the rest are off. Your choices are remembered.

Time Range

Below the list you can pick a time range: last hour, last 24 hours, last 7 days, last 4 weeks, or all time. The default is last 24 hours.

Cleaning Now

Click Clean now to run a cleanup. By default a confirmation dialog appears first, listing what is about to be cleared and for which time range; if you would rather skip it, turn off Confirm before cleaning in the settings.

The line below the button shows when the last cleanup ran. With scheduled cleaning on, it also shows when the next automatic one is due.

Automatic Cleaning

Scheduled cleaning — Turn it on and pick a frequency (every hour, every 6 hours, every 12 hours, or every day). BrowseCleaner then cleans on that rhythm; a run missed while the browser was closed is made up once after the next start
Clean at browser startup — Runs a cleanup every time the browser starts

With both on, you never get two cleanups back to back. Automatic cleaning uses the same data types and time range you selected on the home screen.

Zero-retention Browsing History (Pro)

Once on, pages you visit no longer stay in your history — they are removed as you go, without waiting for the next cleanup. Turning it on asks for the history permission the first time.

While it is on, the Browsing history row on the home screen carries a "Zero retention" tag. History for excluded sites is kept.

Excluded Sites (Pro)

Add the domains whose data you want to keep (such as example.com) in the settings, and cleanups will skip them.

Exclusions apply to cookies, cache, site data and zero-retention browsing history only; browsing history, download history and form data cannot be kept per site. For cache and site data, subdomains are not covered — add them separately if you need them kept.

Storage

Point it at a storage service of your own and your settings and excluded sites stay in sync across all your devices. The time of the last cleanup is not synced — it only reflects what happened on that device.

FAQ

I am still signed in to sites after cleaning

Sign-in state lives in cookies and site data, both of which are off by default — turn them on before cleaning
Make sure the site is not on your excluded list

Scheduled cleaning does not seem to run

Nothing runs while the browser is fully closed; a missed run is made up after the next start
Make sure at least one kind of data is ticked on the home screen — with nothing ticked, nothing happens

Zero-retention browsing history has no effect

Make sure the history permission was granted; without it the switch will not stay on
Make sure the site is not on your excluded list
